MAHA KUMBHAABHISHEKAM
August 23 - August 28, 2023
Sri Venkateswara Temple (Balaji Mandir) & Community Center
Bridgewater, New Jersey, USA
A Temple is the home of the divine and is meant for collective spiritual upliftment. While the omnipotence of the Supreme is manifested into the idols at the time of Prathisthapana thereby making them deities, Āgama scriptures dictate that every twelve years, the divine presence and energy in the deities be invigorated by performing sacred rituals. As the ceremony includes performing abhishekam with sacred water in the kumbham, the ritual is called Kumbhābhishekam.
Since this ceremony is performed every twelve years, the more precise name of the ritual is Pushkarotsava Kumbhabhishekam. At our temple, we will conduct our Second Pushkarotsava Mahā Kumbhābhishekam to homogenize, synergize and unite the mystic powers of each Deity.
Maha Kumbhabhishekam Program
August 23 - August 28, 2023
Step into the world of divinity, bhakti, and spirituality from August 23rd to August 28th at the Pushkaroutsav Mahakumbhabhishekam. A five-day festival that brings together the mystic powers of various deities as an extraordinary spiritual synergy.
Day 1
On the first day of utsavam, following the procedures of Āgama, the prana sakti of the main deities (moola vigrahas) is temporarily transferred by the priests into holy water (mantra jalam) collected in kalashas (kumbham).
During the Utsavam
During the five days of the utsavam, asta bandanam will be completed by temple silpi and the mantra japa, tarpana and homa sakti is also filled into the kumbham through homas.
Day 5
On day five, at an appropriate auspicious moment (muhurtham), with the energizing spell of vedic recitations, chanting of divine names, playing of musical instruments, blowing of the conch and ringing of the bell, the consecration ceremony will be performed by sprinkling the sacred water on Gopura-Vimanas and by showering the deities and shrines with the sacred water in the kumbham.
